‘Kavach’ Protection System to be Installed Soon

The Indian Railways has decided to install the Kavach protection system on its two very important routes. The 3000-kilometres-long rail routes of Delhi–Mumbai and Delhi–Howrah will be secured with this new technology.

What is the ‘Kavach’ protection system?

‘Kavach’, which means ‘armour’, is an anti-train collision system. This will enable trains to stop on their own in case the system notices errors like a train blowing past a red signal or any other malfunction.

The project aims to cover 2000 rail route networks during the current fiscal year of 2022–23, and over 4000–5000 rail route networks in every subsequent year.
