Dial 139 And You Will Be Done!
You might want to pinch yourself! Yes, you heard it right. Now cancelling a confirmed ticket would only be a phone call away. Dial 139 and cancel your ticket without getting into the hassle of rushing to the ticket counter for the same. The quick calling service, which is to be unveiled around mid-April, will definitely make the life of train travellers a tad bit easier. It’s only if you have booked your ticket at the ticket counter, you’ll be eligible for availing the service.
At present, there’s no flexibility for passengers in the existing procedure for cancellation. In case a traveller is not able to board the train on time, it is quite obvious that he/she won’t be able to cancel the ticket at the counter within the stipulated time period. In order to cancel any confirmed ticket, one is required to reach the booth (ticket counter) within 2 hours of the departure of the train, and it’s quite unfair as one can land in an uncalled for situation anytime.
Thus, Indian Railways wants to provide the following:
- Passengers would be able to call on 139 and provide details of their confirmed ticket instead of claiming a refund before 2 hours of the departure of the train.
- They will get a One Time Password (OTP) for the case opened.
- Also, they would be eligible for claiming refund on the ticket from the offline counter any time on the same day.
The proposal will help passengers save money they would have otherwise lost and also escape from the conventional way of cancelling a confirmed train ticket. Providing flexibility is a great move!
