Air travel to remain unaffected as Karnataka, Punjab issue lockdowns, Kerala tightens curbs

Three states have made major changes to their COVID-safety protocols since yesterday. Karnataka has announced a lockdown till May 12, Punjab has imposed an indefinite night curfew and weekly lockdown with immediate effect, and Kerala has issued a stringent set of rules to contain the pandemic.

Karnataka’s lockdown guidelines

A statewide lockdown will begin from 9 pm today (April 27) and continue till 6 am on May 12. Flights and trains will operate as usual, and booked tickets will serve as movement passes for any travellers heading to airports and railway stations. Such persons are allowed to use taxis, cab aggregators, plus auto rickshaws to reach their airports and stations on time. Please make sure to also carry a valid photo ID.

Under the new rules, cinema halls, malls, gyms, clubs, sports complexes, swimming pools, entertainment parks and bars will remain shut. Shops and restaurants will close by 7.30 pm but takeaway/delivery will be allowed till 9 pm.

All meetings (private and government) must be held online, and all social, religious, political and cultural gatherings have been prohibited. Essential and emergency services will be permitted on Saturdays and Sundays, with Saturdays being a holiday for all government/quasi-government/public sector undertaking offices.
